March to the Polls, the second annual Women’s March, took place Jan. 20 in Downtown Chicago. A total of 300,000 people stood in solidarity with the Women’s March Chicago (WMC) movement including businesses like Free Range Office, a women owned and operated coworking space.

If the number of coworking spaces in a city is is any indication of its entrepreneurial health, Chicago is firing on all cylinders. Based on a recent surveyby Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and Chicago Creative Space there are 41 coworking spaces in the city, covering a staggering 868,124 square feet of space.

I am an attorney, journalist and entrepreneur. I first conceived Free Range Office about five years ago, when I had an idea, a baby and a business plan.

Coworking spaces provide a solution to the isolation and distraction of working from home, offer an escape from fighting for a table at Starbucks, and are more affordable than renting your own office. Additionally, coworking spaces are known to be breeding grounds for cross-industry collaboration and networking that happens naturally due to daily interaction with other professionals.

CHICAGO -- Some women across the Chicago area and the world are marking "A Day Without a Woman" on Wednesday. In the Chicago area, women are being urged to take the day off work, wear red, and avoid shopping at businesses that aren't owned by women or minorities.
