New Year’s Resolutions for the Ambitious Coworker

The life of a coworker can be such a breeze, perhaps your coworking routine is already perfect. Or perhaps you’re feeling unfulfilled and stagnant as a coworker. Either way, here are some New Year’s resolutions to help you get the most out of coworking.

Network

Being a part of a coworking space is an invitation to meet people, discover new industries and potential collaborations. As a freelancer or startup business looking to expand on your current network, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with another person in our workspace. In fact, as a fellow coworker, they will expect others to do so and will probably thrilled to make the connection.

Go to things

Even with a busy schedule, it’s a good idea to be open to new opportunities, people, and conversations. Sometimes the best ideas happen when you’re learning about something for the first time or hearing fresh outlooks during a discussion. So if your coworking space offers round table discussions or other events, like Free Range Office does, be sure to attend. Engage with your community and reap the rewards that have been waiting for you all along. If your coworking space doesn’t offer any additional events, why not suggest one yourself?

Where there’s not opportunity, make opportunity.

Take a break

Allow yourself to take mental breaks during the work day. Relax by walking around the space and chatting with some friends or find a fresh perspective by exploring the neighborhood. Especially if you’re working in a place as lively and interesting as Wicker Park, your coworking neighborhood can hold a bounty of inspiration.

Schedule, schedule, schedule

To maximize your productivity in the new year, it’s important to schedule yourself. Schedule what you want to accomplish that day, make it specific (by the hour), and make it feasible so you can finish your work. Even schedule in time for breaks because that will keep unexpected breaks from disrupting your scheduled workflow. The more your schedule yourself, the better disciplined you’ll become and the more you’ll grow into a successful coworker.
