Wearable Tech: Desk-Sitters Beware

Did you know that sitting at your desk can have a dreadful impact on your health? The longer you sit, the higher the risk of an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol, a decline in insulin, a greater risk for colon cancer, a decrease in muscle, and a strained neck, back, legs, hips.

But don’t worry, there’s good news too! Unbuckle, leave your seats, and stand up because you are now entering the age of Wearable Technology.

Wearable Tech can help by encouraging movement or enabling it through portable devices. Not to mention a new study by PricewaterCoopers that says Wearables may increase workplace efficiency.

So think outside the desk and see if some of any of these smart devices could work for you!

  • Lumo lift is an incredible innovation that comes in the form of a patch you attach to your shirt under your collarbone to monitor posture. First set your best posture and it will vibrate whenever you slouch. You can also use the lumo lift app to record your steps, distance, and calories to better monitor your physical activity.

  • Try fitbit. This little rubber wristband can record everything about you, keeping track of your movements throughout the day so you can better to balance the amount of time sitting with the time you spend exercising and sleeping.

  • Ejoy jewelry will have you wearing watches and bracelets that are beautifully cut Murano glass linked to your phones to send you different types of notifications and reminders while monitoring your physical activity. Be fashionable and professional in one piece of Italian jewelry.

  • Google Glass is basically a computer for your face. You wear the headset like a pair of glasses and peer into the corner for the screen, looking up to wake it up, and using voice commands to open various apps. So far only high-paying “Google Explorers” are wearing them, but look out for these hitting the markets someday soon.

  • Tucano’s Sospendo is a support frame you can wear or place on your desk to hold your smartphone or tablet so your hands are free. You could use it while jogging, chopping onions, or having a conference.

  • Take a look at a few mindfulness apps. Mindfulness is an ideal way to clear your mind and de-stress as a break during work and can be done while walking or even lying down in a park for a change of scenery.
